Mesoamerican Ecoturism Alliance

Letter from the Director

Greetings from the Mesoamerican Ecotourism Alliance! With the coming of the new Bak'tun ushering in a new era (Piktun) we are making some significant changes in our organizational structure and creating more efficient linkages for you and our members.

Essentially we are moving from all-inclusive muli-day packages to a more diverse offering of 1/2 day, 1 - day and overnighters to complement longer itineraries. Most importantly, we are making it much easier for you to develop you own itineraries before and during your trips to Mesoamerica. You can simple look up our local members and book trips with them directly!

Over the next several weeks we will be updating our website. It may be a bit confusing at times but we will try to do everything we can to make it functional and useful for your travel planning.

One challenge is some of the more remote communities and beautiful protected areas we visit is the lack of bi-lingual guides. If you see an itinerary in Spanish only, this means there are not bi-lingual guides readily available. An additional strategic shift for us is to actively engage national and regional markets, so expect to see much more Spanish on our website.

We will continue to offer custom itineraries and work with our long-term partners like SEE Turtles.ORG, Mountain Travel Sobek, Trees, Water & People, and The Nature Conservancy. But we believe the changes will make our website much more useful for today's travel preferences.

Please feel free to contact me with any specific questions and feedback. We appreciate your interest in supporting our efforts in promoting sustainable tourism and sustainable communities in Mesoamerica!
