Mesoamerican Ecoturism Alliance

Letter from the Director

Saludos! We are seeing some recovery throughout the region and are quite excited about some new itineraries.  After quite some time we are introducing some new itineraries for the Yucatan.  You can still enjoy the beautiful coast but we also go deep inland to out-of-the-way experiences.  While the press is terrible regarding Honduras, we offer safe, secure trips to the North Coast and Copan.  Guatemala is still a cultural gem with new itineraries as well.

We are also looking at some regional trips and are kicking around a number of ideas.  We should have some new  announcements  shortly. We are also continuing to make  some significant changes in our organizational structure and creating more efficient linkages for you and our members. Essentially we are augmenting our all-inclusive muli-day packages to a more diverse offering of 1/2 day, 1 - day and overnighters to complement longer itineraries.  Most importantly, we are making it much easier for you to develop you own itineraries before and during your trips to Mesoamerica. You can simply look up our local members (see "Our Members" section) and book trips with them directly! We will be updating our website much more regularly as well as our Facebook page.  It may be a bit confusing at times but we will try to do everything we can to make it functional and useful for your travel planning.  One challenge is some of the more remote communities and beautiful protected areas we visit is the lack of bi-lingual guides.  If you see an itinerary in Spanish only, this means there are not bi-lingual guides readily available.  An additional strategic shift for us is to actively engage national and regional markets, so expect to see much more Spanish on our website.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and feedback.  We appreciate your interest in supporting our efforts in promoting sustainable tourism and sustainable communities in Mesoamerica! - Mark Willuhn
