The Mesoamerican Ecotourism Alliance (MEA) is an alliance of local organizations committed to the development and promotion of sustainable tourism as a means for supporting conservation efforts in Mesoamerica. MEA operates in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, and Chiapas and Yucatán, Mexico.
To protect wildlands of globally significant biological diversity by building local capacity through the development and promotion of sustainable tourism as a means for supporting conservation efforts in Mesoamerica; linking these resources to local, regional and international markets; and monitoring and mitigating impacts of visitation.
The Mesoamerican Ecotourism Alliance (MEA) is composed of local organization committed to the development and promotion of sustainable tourism as a means for supporting conservation efforts in Mesoamerica (Southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama).
MEA is a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors composed of a representative from each of our 20 members from eight different countries. MEA members constitute a partnership of local communities, private sector tour operators, government tourism representatives, and non-profit conservation organizations; that are working collaboratively with protected area managers to create unique itineraries that provide high-quality sustainable tours.
