Archeology

From the spectacular Tikal, Tulum and Palenque to a vast number of smaller sites, the legacy of the Maya makes Mesoamerica an amazing destination for archeology enthusiasts. Every MEA tour offers an archeology component, and the first five tours listed below are structured around the pre-Columbian culture. These tours give a more in-depth look at Mayan history - often from the perspective of your Mayan guide. In the case of the Rio Platano, we have an opportunity to visit several non-Maya pre-Columbian sites. For more detail on what each trip offers, click on the links below and read the day-by-day section of the itinerary.

Wildlife Viewing

Mesoamerica is incredibly rich in wildlife being the crossroads of both northern and southern hemisphere species. In this overlap we find over 1000 species of birds, 70 mammals, and many reptiles and amphibians. While all our trips have a wildlife viewing component, the itineraries below are particularly exciting due to location and/or local wildlife phenomena.

Birding

Mesoamerica is a birder's paradise. MEA tours feature the best guides in Mesoamerica and will give you the opportunity for some amazing sightings. While you will have a chance to do some birding on every tour that MEA offers, we have six tours that focus on finding your feathered friends. Peruse the itineraries below for the details.

MEA will take you to spectacular protected ecosystems on the both the Caribbean and Pacific sides of Mesoamerica.
